General Account Information

Lost or Stolen Card or PIN
If your card is lost stolen, or you think that someone else knows your PIN, you must notify us immediately by contacting your branch during working hours, or by telephoning 0845 6010306 (answerphone available 24 hours 7 days a week).

Stopped Cheques
You can stop a cheque by advising us in writing of the following details:

  • Your account number
  • The cheque number
  • The amount of the cheque
  • The payee of the cheque
  • The date the cheque was written

Details of charges for stopping cheques are set out in our charges tariff. A cheque which has been guaranteed with a cheque card cannot be stopped.

Direct Debit Guarantee
This guarantee is offered by all Banks and Building Societies that take part in the Direct Debit scheme and offers you protection if a direct debit which you have not authorised is taken from your account.

If any money is wrongly taken from your account under a direct debit then, as soon as we are told about it, we will refund your account.

Interest Rates

Arranged Overdrafts
The interest rate charged on an arranged overdraft facility is negotiable and is dependant on such factors as the extent of risk and whether the Bank hold security.

Unarranged Overdrafts
(including overdrafts in excess of an agreed limit)
An interest rate of 10% will be added to the negotiated rate or added to the bank's standard rate if no agreed limit. In addition, charges may be incurred for any item we have to return unpaid due to an unarranged overdraft position on the account.

Interest
Interest will be paid net of basic rate tax unless valid documentation is provided entitling the holder(s) to receive interest gross of tax, or the deposit is for £50,000 or more and fixed for a specific period.

Interest Rate Changes
Notification of changes will be posted in our Branches and an advertisement will be taken out in the Airdrie and Coatbridge Advertiser.

Changes To Terms & Conditions
If the Bank makes any changes to the Terms & Conditions of your account we will give you at least 30 days notice before making the changes and we will notify you by placing notices in all of our branches. If the change is to your disadvantage, we will advise you personally by letter, at least 30 days before we make the change.
Interest rate changes are not covered by this condition

CHANGING YOUR ACCOUNT

Cooling off
If you are not happy about your choice of account within fourteen days of making your first payment into the account, we will help you switch to another of our accounts or we will give you all your money back with any interest it has earned. We will ignore any notice period and any extra charges.

Transferring your account to another Institution
If you decide to transfer your account to another institution, we will provide them with information about regular payments from your account within three working days of receivng their request. Also, we will close or move your account when you ask us to do so without charge.

Transferring your account from another Institution
If you want to transfer your account to us we will explain how the process of transfer will work and who is responsible for each step in the process. We will give you what you need to operate the account within ten working days of approving the application.

Closing your account
Unless there are exceptional circumstances, we will not close your account without giving you at least 30 days notice.

Consumer Credit Act
Mortgages, Loans, Credit Cards and all other forms of credit.

  • You must be aged 18 years or over and resident in the UK to apply for Credit. 
  • All lending is subject to the  Banks' appraisal of the applicant's financial status.

Personal Data
We may ask you to provide your name and personal contact details if you wish more information about our products and services. This data will be used to provide you with the information you request, and may be retained to keep you informed by mail or telephone or other reasonable methods of products and services offered by Airdrie Savings Bank. Financial Services Compensation Scheme

The Bank is covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme. You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. AIRDRIE SAVINGS BANK AND YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION 

Who we are
Airdrie Savings Bank was instituted in 1835 under the Savings Bank (Scotland) Act 1819 and has its Head Office at 56 Stirling Street, Airdrie ML6 0AW.  The main business of the Bank is providing banking services. 

Confidentiality
All personal information provided by you and any other information relating to your account will be treated in confidence and will not be disclosed to any third parties except:

  • where permitted by law
  • where we have a duty to the public to reveal the information
  • where your consent has been received
  • to protect ourselves and our customers against fraud and other financial crime

The information will be held in Airdrie Savings Bank computer systems and may be used in the following ways: 

Where we obtain your information
Apart from the information you give to us [or our agents], we may collect information about you from: 

  • other account holders you are connected with;
  • credit reference agencies (see below);
  • other organisations, including fraud prevention agencies;  and
  • any joint applicant, if you have given them permission to disclose information to us for a joint account application. 

Our service
The information will assist us in providing the service/s which we have agreed to provide to you. 

Keeping you informed
We may contact you by post, telephone, email, fax or text message to keep you informed of other services which may be of interest to you. We will only do this if we have your permission to contact you for this purpose. If you no longer wish to receive such direct marketing information, please write and advise us. 

Lending decisions
Where a lending decision is involved, the information will aid us in assessing the extent of the credit we will offer to you. Credit scoring (an automated method for assisting with decision making) may be used for credit assessment. 

Fraud Prevention
We will check your details with fraud prevention agencies.  If false or inaccurate information is provided and fraud is identified, details will be passed to fraud prevention agencies.  Law enforcement agencies may access and use this information. 

  • We and other organisations may also access and use this information to prevent fraud and money laundering, for example, when: 
  • checking details on applications for credit and credit related or other facilities
  • managing credit and credit related accounts or facilities
  • recovering debt
  • checking details on proposals and claims for all types of insurance 
  • We and other organisations may access and use from other countries the information recorded by fraud prevention agencies.

Credit Reference
Enquiries may be made with Credit Reference Agencies and in such cases the agencies will keep a record of our enquiry whether or not the application for credit proceeds. We will disclose to the agencies information about you in the event of you defaulting on a debt. In addition, transactional information relating to the conduct of your account(s) may be disclosed periodically to Credit Reference Agencies. All information received and recorded by Credit Reference Agencies may be used by other lenders in making credit decisions, and/or to verify identity in respect of you, other members of your household and those with whom you are linked financially. The information may also be used for debt collection and/or statistical analysis purposes. An association between joint account holders and/or any other individual identified as your financial partner will be created at Credit Reference Agencies which will link your financial records. You and anyone else with whom you have a financial link understand that each other’s information will be taken into account in all future applications by either or both of you. The linking will continue until one of you successfully files an application to remove that association (“Disassociation”) at the Credit Reference Agencies. The agencies will explain how you can do this. By stating a financial association with another party, you are also declaring that you are entitled to disclose information about your joint applicant and/or anyone else referred to by you and that you authorise us to search, link and/or record information at Credit Reference Agencies about you and/or anyone else referred to by you. Please contact us if you wish details of those agencies we use. You have a legal right to these details. 

Your Rights

  • These uses of your personal information are covered by our registration under the Data Protection Act.  Under the terms of the Act you have the right to obtain a copy of the information we hold about you, upon payment of the appropriate fee.  You have a right to receive a copy of the information we hold about you if you apply in writing.  You may need to pay a fee.  Further information can be obtained from the website of the Information Commissioner at www.dataprotection.gov.uk 
  • You have a right to stop us contacting you for direct marketing purposes.  You may contact us at any time in the future if you want us to stop.  However, choosing not to receive marketing information from us will mean that you will not receive details about any of our special offers and promotions. 
  • You have a right to receive details of the fraud prevention agencies and credit reference agencies we get information from and record information about you with if you apply to us by writing to us.
